Hello! I'm Axel.

I'm an aspiring developer looking to seize every opportunity I get to hone my developing skills and learn new things! I love exploring new technologies and concepts every day.

Although becoming an expert in the field is my aspiration, it isn't quite my dream. My absolute goal in life is to have a positive impact on as many people as possible, to one day, leave this world a better place.

Experience

08/2018-11/2018 Lead-Developer

RnC entertainment

RnC entertainment is a gaming community focused on creating a unique experience for horse enthusiasts. Across the span of 3 months I was lucky to be a part of their team taking the lead of the developer unit. The main focus of this unit was to develop Java 8 plugins that would build on to that experience.

10/2018-12/2018 Volunteer

Library of Sint-Pieters-Woluwe

During 2 months I helped the incredible personnel at this library. Mostly functioning as a waiter on events they organised.

01/2019-06/2019 Developer

Stag Lodge Stables

Stag Lodge Stables, situated in London and founded in 1790, is a stables organising horse riding lessons for adults and children. During 6 months 2 other colleagues and me developed an online reservation system using HTML,CSS, Javascript and PHP. accompanying this application was an administrative panel made in Access 2013

05/2019-06/2019 Stock clerk

Albert Heijn Knokke

During 1 month I worked as a stock clerk in one of my local grocery stores. This was solely out of a need to earn money, not being driven by any personal interest or passion. Although the main focus was earning money, I learned a lot about how important it is to educate yourself so that one day you can provide for you family doing something you love.

06/2019-07/2019 Bartender

Famouz beach - Knokke-Strand

Because of where I lived, I got the amazing opportunity to work at various beach bars. A very appropriate change of pace. I got to develop my social skills and enjoy the amazing weather for an entire month. Sadly the 14 hour workdays got to me, and in combination with the horrible weather I had to move on.

07/2019-09/2019 Bartender

Grand Casino Knokke

To finish off my summer break, because of a newly acquired financial freedom, I went looking for a job that would make me want to go to work and I'd enjoy thoroughly. To my surprise on the first day of looking someone told me that our local casino was looking for extra help. Being as excited as anyone would be, I immediately contacted the place and started that very day. Truly one of the most fun experiences in my life so far.

10/2019-today Volunteer (IT dep.)

Oxfam solidarity

To make good use of my free time, and give back to the community that is currently helping me finance my studies, I started working as a volunteer for the IT department at one of Oxfams' thrift stores. This, for me, is a great way of getting some hands-on experience working on electronics.

Education

2012-2019 IT management

Miniemeninstituut Leuven

My first and most fundamental degree providing me with the necessary skills to thrive at college level academics. I chose to specialize in IT management as that was my sole interest at a time. In retrospect not that great of a decision, as it made me too devoted to a single subject instead of exploring my interests a bit more.

2019-now software engineering

Howest Bruges

I am currently trying for my bachelors' degree as a software engineer. Even though I don't necessarily learn a bunch of new things, it is adding some very needed structure to my coding practices.

languages

dutch

The very first language I learned as a child. I've been speaking it for as long as I can remember. Naturally I've mastered the language quite well.

english

As any kid my age did, I spent a lot of my free time playing games and watching movies. intuitively I picked up the language quite quickly. During the summer of 2018 is when I really mastered the language though. I got my first job as a programmer and naturally English was the medium of communication.

french

Although my first language is Dutch, I did grow up in a more diversified linguistic environment. As a child I (even though I did not understand much of it) was always around French speaking people. Again in a very intuitive way (mostly while repetitively asking for translations) and, in due time, I learned to communicate using the french language.
